Forum: Our Wheel of the Year
January 7, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
“The ancient roots from which neopaganism is derived, grew in a different hemisphere, different age, different climactic conditions from the environment in which we practice, in the middle of the Midwest of the US in the 21st century. Many of us live lives very untethered from the rhythms of agriculture let alone subsistence hunting and gathering. The agricultural calendar that associates the birth of the lambs and abundance of milk from Imbolc and the first harvest of wheat with Lughnasadh, in fact, is not the same in Missouri as it was in Ireland. Yet global climate change has forced many of us to recognize that we remain very much a part of nature, and cannot survive separated from the planet on which we live nor without the star around which it orbits. We return to the topic of the Wheel of the Year and the appropriate rituals to acknowledge the holidays. Bring your ideas for a global-climate-change oriented, or even an urban-disconnected, sensibility for those traditional turning points for a lively discussion.”
