New Year’s Ritual: Hekate’s Deipnon

January 2 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The last year (and then some) has brought loss, not only of loved ones and relationships, but prosperity, security, hope. Join us for a Silent Supper in the tradition of Hekate’s Deipnon from ancient Greece, as we take an opportunity to commune with the Mighty Dead from this year or before.
For this ritual, it will be helpful if you can prepare or have on hand certain things:
* a small plate of food (the more flavorful or fragrant the better) OR a beverage OR incense to offer to the dead. Unlike in many pagan rituals, you will not be consuming this food and/or drink at the end of ritual.
* a bite of food and/or drink for yourself as well
* a note to your Beloved Dead, or the means to physically write a note during ritual (i.e. not electronic)
* a candle or chalice, and something to light it with. If your candle is electronic, you will want to have handy a flame for burning your note during or shortly after ritual. You may also need to have a safe place to let the note burn out.
* a divination tool of your choice.
* if you have it available, you can make an offering to the Outdwellers (those inimical to our rite) by bringing them molasses, refined sugar, or similar man-made sweeteners. Note that we recommend against using honey for this purpose in this ritual. If you do not have these items, do not worry, as the ritual team will make a primary offering to propitiate them.
Note: the entire ritual will not be in silence, only a portion (please remember to mute yourself as appropriate). In addition this ritual will be done within an ADF framework, so there will be a space for praise offerings unrelated to the specific work of the day.
