One of the candidates for Gaia Community’s patron for this year was Ganesha, the elephant-headed son of Shiva and Parvati. Ganesha is one of the most popular and widely-recognized deities of the Hindu pantheon, and is considered a symbol of wisdom, writing, travel, commerce, and good fortune. The festival of Ganesha Chaturthi celebrates the god’s birth over a period of ten days, and begins this year on September 10th. In our ritual, we will learn more about the role of Ganesha and the practices of Chaturthi. To prepare for the ritual, you might want to spend a few moments making sure that the area where you participate is clean and tidy, and if you do have an image of Ganesha, and/or an altar to him, you may want to bring the image into the area where you zoom, or zoom near that altar. That’s all optional though; all you really need is something to serve as a chalice, and yourself!
