Workshop: Candle Crafting
February 18 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
While Candlemas is February 2, we will be celebrating it on February 18 by doing our own candle-making to defeat the cold and dark of winter.
Our ancestors needed to make candles for light in winter, now we make them for comfort and enjoyment.
“If Candlemas Day be fair and bright, winter will have another fight.
If Candlemas Day brings cloud and rain, winter won’t come again.
If Candlemas Day be dry and fair, half o’ the winter’s come and mair.
If Candlemas Day be wet and foul, half o’ the winter’s gane at Yule.
Operating under the KISS principal, we will be making simple candles out of soy wax or bee’s wax in glass containers that you may bring with you (please make sure that they are clean.) We will be pouring candles; your choice of 4 directional candles for home ritual use or a decorative candle or two. If you wish to make scented candles, bring the essential oil you wish to use. We will provide the soy wax and bee’s wax, wicks and basic supplies. Please bring an apron or wear something you don’t mind having spattered with wax. If you have candle molds or other supplies you wish to bring and use, that’s fine but we will not be covering making pillars or tapers this time.
